A Guideline for Correct Badminton Court Dimensions

Badminton is a fun game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages but if you are considering having a court installed at your home or at a fitness center you own, it is important that you build it according to proper badminton court dimensions. Yes, people can build courts for badminton of different dimensions but if you want to play some serious games or you plan on hosting tournaments, the dimensions need to be regulation.

The game of badminton can be played leisurely on a lazy Saturday afternoon with family or friends or as a competitive game. For this game, two people can play against each other. This one-on-one play is called a singles game. However, when two people play against each other, it becomes a doubles game. During badminton, all of the players score points when the shuttlecock is hit with the racquet. The goal is to get the shuttlecock over the net and for it to hit the ground before the opposing player can hit it back.

As the shuttlecock is hit back and forth between players without hitting the ground, it is called a “rally”. However, as soon as the shuttlecock hits the ground, the rally ends, and the player that made the good shot scores. The shuttlecock used in the game of badminton has a rubber tip, meshing, and feathers. When hit with the racquet correctly, it can fly quite a distance. Net Line – This line runs down the middle of the court from side-to-side. Once the net is set up, a space is created on both sides of the net where each player stands, which measures 22x20 feet.

Short Service Line – This line is marked as 6x6 feet, going from the center line and then the outside area is known as the Non-Volley Zone

Center Line – Another aspect of the court is the center line, which divides the short service line all the way to the back boundary line. This line is used to create definition for the left and right-hand side of the court from which the badminton is served.

Single Line – The badminton court dimensions for the single line specific to singles play is marked from the edge of the outside boundary line by 1.5 feet.

Back Boundary Line - The back boundary line, as well as the long service line is used in the game of badminton, whether the game involves singles or doubles.

Long Service Line – This line is marked from the inside of the back boundary line by 2.5 feet, which is used for doubles play.

Net – For the game of badminton, the net measures 5-feet tall, which is what the badminton is hit over by the players.
